I think galleria may have been in the Trumbull mall back in the days of Korvettes . I worked at ( early 80s ) and don't remember anything other than sorrentinos so it would have to had been there very early in the malls life . Neither of these malls and the Milford one as well are as cool as the early versions . I miss those days .Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-58222516923035386652011-07-20T13:42:50.997-04:002011-07-20T13:42:50.997-04:00Shortly after purchasing the mall, National Realty...Shortly after purchasing the mall, National Realty and Development Corp. spent $8 million on a refit of the entire property in 2005. The firm also managed to add Kohl's and then HomeGoods as new anchor stores, which were quickly followed by Target and Best Buy. Target broke ground in late 2004, and at 124,500 square feet (11,570 m2), it represents one fourth of the mall's size.Purchase Viagrahttp://www.citratesildenafil.com/viagra/purchase-viagra.htmlnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-73583391466988983692011-05-09T21:32:49.946-04:002011-05-09T21:32:49.946-04:00Wasn't the name of the original restaurant in ...Wasn't the name of the original restaurant in the Mall named GALLERIA (or something like that?)
ThanksSuehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04010950401038530141noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-2513863537574963222011-01-11T05:48:54.447-05:002011-01-11T05:48:54.447-05:00Sorentinos was the pizza place in the mall, spell...Sorentinos was the pizza place in the mall, spelling may not be correct but that was the name.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-85601096536109966382009-08-10T17:12:14.164-04:002009-08-10T17:12:14.164-04:00I used to go to the mall when it was in its origin...I used to go to the mall when it was in its original configuration. I haven't been there in many years. Other than Caldors, Sage-Allen and the grocery store (Waldbaum's was it?) I don't recall there being much else.I believe there was an optician, a bank, a shoe store, and perhaps a jeweler as the other main drawing cards, although there were a few other smaller stores there as well. I remember the conveyor belt escalators in Caldors (don't lose your grip on your shopping cart!) and the adjacent stairway for those less adventurous. I also remember parking in the upper lot behind Sage-Allen, going in their back door and then having to go through a crazy, almost maze-like set-up of escalators to get inside the mall to ground level. There was also a really good pizza restaurant (I can't remember the name) about the middle of the mall. I would always have a slice or two at the counter. One of the last times I went to the mall it was gone. I think I miss that more than anything. I would love to know the name and if they moved elsewere.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-72545491455480195442007-08-19T12:43:00.000-04:002007-08-19T12:43:00.000-04:00I go to this mall at times, and I slightly remembe...I go to this mall at times, and I slightly remember it's "Caldor Age"
look. The corridor didn't have the elevator, and it used to have several
"Dome shaped" light fixtures which hung from the ceiling on the caldor side. They were eliminated once the vacant stienbach was turned into best buy. I can also remember how the former caldor was a two level store, which had a cafe in it on one corner.
This caldor also had sloped conveyor belts instead of regular escalators. so people could put their shopping carts on them. The conveyors were noisy, and had yellow arrows pointing in the direction the conveyor was going.
These were located in the back of the store, along with the elevator.
Then kohls changed everything. The enterance to caldor was closed with glass doors, and covered up with pink paper. Once it finally opened, I found that the conveyor escalators were taken out and replaced with regular step escalators which were now relocated at the center of the store. The elevator was also relocated to the side of the store. Also, the former caldor cafe area was changed to a fitting room.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-21937142172065336052007-02-05T01:22:00.000-05:002007-02-05T01:22:00.000-05:00I remember that Sage-Allen to be an oddly planned ...I remember that Sage-Allen to be an oddly planned store. You had to enter through the mall, up the escalators, and the store was split between the escalator well. I never cared for this location and usually shopped in the West Farms or Saybrook locations.

I've often wondered if they had a difficult time with shortage, due to the fact the escalators went directly into the mall area itself.
It seems it would've been very easy to grab something and just head down to the mall to be lost in the shuffle.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-1169184627718397582007-01-19T00:30:00.000-05:002007-01-19T00:30:00.000-05:00I can see your angle, Marc. As far as the mall goes, now owned by the City as you know, probably doesn't want to venture into more retail.

But I won't be too surprised if they do just this on that "Shoppes at Larson Farms" property across Wal-Mart. Target (and Best Buy for that matter) can stick it right to Wal-Mart but lucky for them the spacial issues will eliminate possibilities.

Another thing about the Bristol Centre Mall; the big problem as you've noted is its lack of access to any form of highway. It's a little too far off Route 6 and its retail and visibly is a loser; just not in the right area and it never was.

The Bristol Centre Mall needed to go, and something else needs to go there that would suit Bristol's community instead of another cookie-cutter shopping plaza. They have enough retail; too much will cheapen the City; especially the humble center of town. Retail just won't work - it barely did 30 years ago when the mall began to show its own failure.

About that CT-72 expansion; it's going to take a long time for that to be complete - and when it does, maybe then something else will arise long after the mall's been demo'd (or not?!). For now? Well it seems bad timing is the case.Nicholas M. I still say if someone would put several million dollars into that place it could succeed, especially now that the Route 72 Expanison Project is finally gonna get underway in June.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33709921.post-1169015635024583532007-01-17T01:33:00.000-05:002007-01-17T01:33:00.000-05:00My mistake! Sage-Allen was an independent clothing chain much like JCPenney, but with nicer store designs, that went belly-up in 1993, as you mentioned in your article. Steinbach moved in to that space a few years later...around 1996 or 1997. The space was vacant for three or four years. Kohl's opened in the Caldor space in 2000.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
